Expert System Extends Data Access With Mobile Semantic Technology

Expert System, the leading provider of semantic intelligence software that discovers, classifies and interprets text information, today announces the Cogito® semantic platform is now available for BlackBerry® smartphones from Research In Motion (RIM). Cogito simplifies corporate data extensibility and lends access to both structured and unstructured corporate data via natural language interface (NLI).

Through the integration of Cogito’s semantic analysis and natural language interface, platform organizations can offer secure, easy access to valuable and unstructured information by connecting back-office data stores and making them searchable through a natural language interface. BlackBerry users can search their companies’ Intranets, corporate files, contracts and more to obtain relevant information immediately. The result is answers you need, when you need them, right from your BlackBerry smartphone.

The demand for enterprise mobility is increasing, so having anywhere, anytime access to corporate data to aid in making the right business decision is crucial. Independent research group International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts the number of worldwide mobile workers will reach 1 billion — including nearly 75 percent of the U.S. workforce — by the end of 2011.

“More than 85 percent of the knowledge on which we base business decisions is found in unstructured databases,” said Walter Kostiuk, vice president, mobile and Internet at Expert System. “Anytime, anywhere access to those databases makes all the difference. We are excited to offer our innovative solutions to enterprises that have deployed BlackBerry smartphones.”

The Cogito semantic platform performs complex text analysis (e.g. sense disambiguation, entity extraction, categorization, natural language understanding and concept search) at the highest known speed and with a small memory footprint.

On the front end, it offers a customizable natural language user interface, eliminating the need for complex menus and cumbersome client applications. On the back end, Cogito connects seamlessly, streamlining and normalizing enterprise data in any form. Cogito leverages the BlackBerry(R) Enterprise Server(TM) to provide a secure-server, client-based environment.
